I grew up not fearing old age
by Sour Grapes inas a teenage jw, i grew up believing that i was not going to finish high school nor would i get old and have to die like my grandparents did.
well, i did finish high school, as did my children and my grandchildren and old age has not been kind to me.
i don't like to look at pictures from 40 years ago, from a time when i was healthy and i had the goal of "stay alive till 75.

That being said, I'm in my 30's so I'll shut up now. :)

Ok. I'm confused and slightly stunned.
by Left in the Cold inon pages 54 & 55 of the "what has religion done for mankind" book the following quotes can be found.
considering adams decision to eat the fruit with eve it is written, "the woman was not to consult her husband first on the matter of eating, although god had made him first and had used him to construct the woman concerning the forbidden tree.
no, but she was to exercise woman's rights and show him she had better judgement.".

"It was just as in many lands today where the religious clergy dominate politics and commerce. The men who see the double-talk and double-dealing of the clergy have no use for these religious hypocrites. BUT because their womenfolk hold to the religious system, the men make no disturbance about it just in order to keep their women and get along with them."
btw, religious leaders know the above statement is true and craftily use the women.
No scriptures at all to back this up. I know I'm naïve about this stuff right now, but WTF? It sounds as if women are responsible for the entire downfall of mankind and giving false religion it's audience, as well. Who wrote this? Is this really how women were seen? Why would a woman sit through a study of this book after reading that? If I had been there you can bet I would've used my "woman's rights". I'm just amazes to read that! Wow! Women seem to be valueless to the WT. at least in 1951 they were. Cavemen!
(My bold option was doing wierd things. Sorry.)

I think writing out what you'd like to say could be very therapeutic, but I have learned and been told, when it comes to submitting a letter to anyone, it's usually best to keep it short and to the point. And I agree, they don't deserve six pages of your writing.
Good luck!

What About Adam & Eve?
by Cold Steel inwhat are the teachings of the jehovah's witnesses in regard to adam and eve?
i know that they believe the fall was a horrible, horrible mistake and that man was never intended to fall (despite god's foreknowledge).
does the atonement of christ cover their sins or are they to be destroyed after their resurrection?

"Eve was framed".-bumbler sticker I saw once.
I always believed that anyone who had already been 'judged' by Jehovah wasn't going to come back. But, then again, I never thought to look and see if the bible really says that. I just thought it was right. (I can't believe half the stuff I never questioned.)

So utterly hurt.
by LouBelle intoday something happened that hurt me more than the jwks, more than the shunning, more than my sexual molestation, more than my hellish years at caxton and more than the year i've just had.. the moment i was told this, i felt like my insides had been ripped, torn, shredded and my heart squeezed of it's very life.
i put my head in my hands and for the first time in my life let out a primal gut wrenching wail.. my father had asked my gran why she has been treating me the way she has (which hasn't been very nice).
he though it strange considering how in the past i have helped her and given her so much.

Disgusting
by Vegas Girl ini was reading the find whitney heichel page of fb and the moderator has posted info about another missing girl in oregon (non-jw) well, apparantley this missing girl has some sort of a past or something and people are getting on the site (mostly jw's) and making rude remarks about this girl has a bad past and that it's prob her fault.
i can't fathom how they can get on there after the horrible tragedy of whitney and yet because this other missing girl is not jw somehow now they attach fault to her going missing.
this is exactly why i can't deal with jw's.

In thinking about Whitney's case, she obviously knew her attacker. To me, I would have reason to hope he'd let me go because its this person I've known for a long time. He's not a murderer in my eyes. If I can just get through this horrible ordeal, he'll let me go. So she complied.
Im only speculating. But I think that's how I would feel about it. But then, the percentage of people murdered by people they know is pretty high. Still, "hope springs eternal in the human breast". I'm sure she was likely hopeful through most of it. Hopeful that she would be released, I mean. So, so sad.

I just bought "What has Religion Done for Mankind" at an estate sale...
by Left in the Cold init's copy right 1951. it is so different than the things i learned from 79-today.
wt heavily relied upon wwi to show that god's kingdom was established in 1914 etc.
chapter 24 is called "the remnant restored from mystic babylon".

It's copy right 1951. It is so different than the things I learned from 79-today. WT heavily relied upon WWI to show that God's kingdom was established in 1914 etc. Chapter 24 is called "The Remnant Restored from Mystic Babylon". But there are emphasis on certain ideas that are hardly, if ever spoken of now. It's almost like it was a different religion then. Guess a lot has changed. Most of you probably have or had this book. Sorry. I'd never seen it. I only paid $.50. I was a little excited. Sorry.
